  1. N Ltd. has grown in size. It was a market leader but with changes in business environment and with the entry of MNCs its market share is declining. To cope up with the situation, CEO starts delegating some of his authority to the General Manager, who also felt himself overburdened and with the approval of CEO disperses some of his authority to various levels throughout the organisation. Identify the concept involved.

  2. A company has its registered office in Delhi, manufacturing unit at Gurgaon and marketing and sales Department at Faridabad. The Company manufactures the consumer products.  Which type of organizational structure should it adopt to achieve its target?

  3. A company is engaged in manufacturing of washing machines. The target of organisation is to manufacture 500 washing machines a day. There is an occupational specialisation in the organisation which promotes efficiency of employees.  There is no duplication of efforts in such type of organisation structure.

He formed a team of 10 members to list the different ways for cleaning the surroundings. One suggested to take the help of local residents, another suggested that they may involve school going children in their venture. One more suggestion was to take the help of unemployed youth. On evaluation of different ways, it was decided to take the help of local residents. To achieve the desired goal various activities were identified like--

            a) Purchase of necessary items like dustbins, garbage bags, brooms, etc.

            b) Collection of garbage;

            c) Disposal of garbage, etc.

            After identification of different activities the work was allocated to different members.

  1. Identify the concepts of management involved in the above situation and quote the lines which help in   their identification. 

  2. Also identify the values which the company wants to communicate to the society.               

  1. A company manufacturing sewing machines set up in 1945 by the British promoters follows formal organisation culture in totality. It is facing lot of problems in delays in decision making.

As the result it is not able to adapt to changing business environment. The work force is also not                     motivated since they cannot vent their grievances except through formal channels, which involve red tape. Employee turnover is high. Its market share is also declining due to changed circumstances and business environment.                                                                                                              

  1. You are to advise the company with regard to change it should bring about in its organisation structure to overcome the problems faced by it.

  2. Give reasons in terms of benefits it will derive from the changes suggested by you.

  1. Alliance Ltd. is engaged in manufacturing plastic buckets. The objective of the company is to manufacture 100 buckets a day. To achieve this, the efforts of all departments are coordinated and interlinked and authority-responsibility relationship is established among various job positions. There is clarity on how is to report to whom. Name the concept.        

  2. A company is manufacturing Refrigerators. There is a well-defined system of jobs with a clear and definite authority, responsibility and accountability in the company. But people are not allowed to interact beyond their officially defined roles. As a result the company is not able to adapt to the changing business environment. The workforce is 

also not motivated due to lack of social interaction. The company is facing problems of procedural delays and inadequate recognition to creative talents. 

(i) Suggest how the organization can overcome the problems faced by it.

  2. Bhawna personnel manager in a company, will not trust anybody in the company. She will not assign any work to anybody in her department. Name the concept missing in this context and explain the importance of such concept.                                                                            

  3. To make the sports day of the school successful the Headmaster of the school divided all the activities into task groups each dealing with a specific area like holding of events, arrangement of medals, refreshments etc. Each group was placed under the overall supervision of a senior teacher. The physical education teacher was made responsible for holding different events , the home science teacher for refreshments and the Maths teacher for medals.

Identify the function of management being performed by the headmaster in doing so.

  1. Neeraj started a company ‘YoYo Ltd.’ with ten employees, to assemble economical computers for the Indian rural market. The company did very well in its initial years. As the product was good and marketed well, the demand went up. To increase production, the company decided to recruit additional employees. Neeraj Gupta who was earlier taking decisions for the company had to selectively disperse the authority. He believed that people are competent, capable and resourceful and can assume responsibility for effective implementation of their decisions. This paid off and the company was not able to increase its production but also expanded its product range with different features.

  1. ‘My Car Ltd. decided to set up its new car manufacturing factory in the backward area of Bengal where very less job opportunities were available. The company also decided to provide facilities like school, hospital, market etc. in the factory premises so that people are attracted to join the factory as workers. 

‘My Car Ltd.’ started earning huge profit. Another competing company asked its production manager ‘Arvind’ to investigate the reasons of earning huge profits by ‘My Car Ltd.

Arvind found out that in both the companies there was systematic coordination among the various activities. The only difference was that in his organisation communication took place only through the scalar chain, whereas ‘My Car Ltd.’ was allowing flow of communication in all the directions as per the requirement which lead to faster spread of information as well as quick feedback.

  1. Anoop Gaur started a company for providing cyber security solutions of businesses. His reputation grew by leaps and bounds as he was not only a person of integrity but also did his work with utmost honesty and sincerity. The business started growing day by day.

He was delighted when he was offered a big project by the Ministry of Science and Technology. While working on the project he found that the volume of work made it impractical for him to handle all the work by himself. Therefore, he decided to expand the team. The company maintained a close liaison with an engineering college in the State. During a campus placement, Aarav and Pranshi were appointed to work for the new project.

He found the new employees capable, enthusiastic and trustworthy. Anoop Gaur was thus able to focus on the objectives and with the help of Aarav and Pranshi, the project was completed on time. Not only this, Anoop Gaur was also able to extend his area of operations. On the other hand, Aarav and Pranshi also got opportunities to develop and exercise initiative.

  1. Identify and explain briefly the concept used by Anoop Gaur in the above case which helped him in focusing on the objectives.

  2. Also, explain any four points on importance of the concept identified in part (a).

  1. Aradhna and Gandharv are heads of two different departments in ‘Yumco Ltd.’. They are efficient managers and are able to motivate the employees of their respective departments to improve performance. However, their drive to excel in their own sphere of activity instead of giving emphasis on objectives of the enterprise has hindered the interaction between the departments that Aradhna and Gandharv are heading. Often there are inter departmental conflicts and they have become incompatible. This has proved to be harmful in the fulfillment of organisational objectives. The situation has deteriorated to such an extent that CEO of ‘Yumco Ltd.’ has hired a consultant, Rashmi, to resolve the problem. After studying the situation closely, Rashmi found that the problem has arisen due to inflexibility and a narrow perspective on the part of both Aradhna and Gandharv. She is of the view that this situation is a result of the type of organisational structure ‘Yumco Ltd’ has adopted.

From the above information, identify the organisational structure adopted by ‘Yumco Ltd.’ and state any three advantages of the structure so identified.

  1. Roasted Coffee Corporation is a coffeehouse chain operating in seven states of India. Through its effective organisational structure, it has grown despite pressure from competitors in the national market. The company has a Purchase and Production department, Supply chain and logistics department and Sales department. This structure has facilitated operational efficiency, as employees became specialists within their own realm of expertise. They could be imparted specialized training as the focus was on limited range of skills.

Identify the organisational structure of Roasted Coffee Corporation. Also state the three advantages of this structure other than those discussed in the above paragraph.
