He set a target of producing 1000 jute bags a day. It was reported that the employees were not able to achieve the target. After analysis he found that employees were demotivated 5 and not putting in their best for achieving the target. Mr. Ashutosh’s behavior is good towards the employees. His attitude is always positive. So he announced various incentive schemes for the employees like: 

 Installing award or certificate for best performance 

 Rewarding an employee for giving valuable suggestions 

 Congratulating the employees for good performance

  1. ‘A.S. Environs Ltd.’ is dealing in Environment Consultancy. To get the business, the team leader and his team used to travel to different states to give presentation to their clients. As per the policy of the company, the team leader used to travel by air whereas his team travelled by road/train. It was not only time consuming but also at times forced the female team members to travel alone. As a result, the subordinates were not acting in a desired manner to achieve the organisational goals. The CEO of the company came to know about it. He called the team leader, discussed the matter with him and decided to change the travel policy of the company. It was decided that in future all the members including the leader would travel together and usefully utilize the travelling time in discussion about the presentation to be given to the clients. This made a positive impact and every member of the team started acting in a manner as desired by the team leader.

State the features of the element of the function of management used by the CEO.

  1. X Ltd. is a bank functioning in India. It is planning to diversify into insurance business. Lately, the government of India has allowed the private sector to gain entry in the insurance business. Previously, it was the prerogative of LIC and GIC to do insurance business. But now with liberalization of the economy and to make the field competitive other companies have been given the licenses to start insurance business under the regulation of Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority.

X Ltd. plans to recruit high quality employees and agents and exercise effective direction to capture a substantial part of life and non life business.

  1. Sultan was a regional manager in a company for last eight years. On the retirement of the marketing manager, Sultan applied for the same post because he was extremely ambitious and had dedicated all his energies to obtain the post of Marketing Manager. However, the top management decided to fill the position by selecting a better person from outside. Because of this Sultan was heartbroken and his performance declined.

When the new Marketing Manager joined, one of his major problems was how to motivate and inspire Sultan to his former level of performance.

Mr. B. Chatterjee, immediately sent a text message to the employees of the organisation requesting them to donate blood for Prateek. When the General Manager came to know about it he ordered for fumigation in the company premises and for cleaning the surroundings.

  1. Rakesh is CEO of ‘Newcastle Enterprises’. His success stories are famous he chooses highly motivated and capable managers who can perform their tasks creatively and adequately without his help. He allows the group members to work on their own tasks and resolve issues themselves.

He intervenes, but only when needed to correct an unfavorable situation. He does not use power unless it is absolutely essential. He even allows mistakes to happen for his people to learn from them. He supports them and supplies them the required information to complete the assigned task.
